I've Given Up The Modern Idea of Being Successful (And You Should Too)
Thursday, 27 September 2018
Our perception of 'success' often changes as we grow. When we're young we might associate it with being able to buy anything we want when we enter a store and, as we age, we begin to see it as having a career or a family and a mortgage. Instead of our perception of success being solely focused on items, it becomes more about personal fulfilment along with the perception other people have of us. This is when we become overly absorbed in the stress of being seen as 'living our best lives' when, in fact, this idealistic lifestyle is far from what any of us are experiencing.
Why Taking a Step Back Doesn't Make you a Failure
Thursday, 26 April 2018
I've never been one to take a step back from dreams, goals, or things that make me happy so when I actively decided to take a break from blogging at the end of February I tried to look at it as a positive thing. Although the looming thoughts of people clicking on my blog to see that it hasn't been updated in months and clicking off in disgust and annoyance had me awake at night at first (tad overdramatic perhaps, but true) I slowly began to realise how prioritising certain things over others and letting things go is much better for my mental health.
Buying New Lingerie is the Definition of Treating Yo' Self | Empress Mimi *
Tuesday, 20 February 2018
Buying lingerie, or in fact any kind of underwear, feels different to any other purchase. Leaving the store with a bag full of laced undergarments or colourful soft cotton pieces immediately lifts my mood. I consider these purchases 'self care'. They are purchases for me and no one else. There is something satisfying about buying something that no one else will ever see unless you want them to. When we buy a new top or coat or pair of jeans one of the first things we think to ourselves is "what will other people think of this?", our friends, our partners, our mums, etc. Although I don't condone looking good for anyone else but yourself, this is a rational thought to have as these clothes will be covering our skin and our armour against the world. Everyone will see them but with underwear it's different. It is going underneath this armoured exterior and only you will know what pair you're wearing that day, so when you pick out and buy new underwear it really is a purchase for you - the ultimate definition of treat yo' self.
You Don't Have to Feel ok Just Because it's Christmas
Friday, 22 December 2017
Listening to my brother playing Mud's 'Lonely This Christmas' from his adjacent room as I sit in bed drinking my morning tea and scrolling through my camera roll right back to the start of 2017, it occurred to me that I'm not the happiest this Christmas. It's true, I've never been super enthusiastic about Christmas in general (call me the Grinch), but usually the lights on the Christmas tree in the evening or the bitter chill of winter air hitting my fingertips as they're wrapped around a cup of hot chocolate is enough to put a smile on my face. Sadly this year these basic festivities have been practiced to no avail.
Stop Putting Art Students Down. Our Work is Just as Valid as Yours.
Friday, 15 December 2017
People always seem to underestimate the power of the creative industries. According to The Independent "creative industries generate £84 billion a year for the UK economy, almost £10m an hour", yet this is completely overlooked by the Bsc Data Modelling student I met in the SU the other week and all of his relevant counterparts.
It's time to start writing about what I want
Sunday, 3 December 2017
As you can probably assume from the title of this post, I'm planning on being a bit blunt. I'm tired of writing sponsored reviews to "get my blog off the ground" and photographing products to post, even though I don't think they're review-worthy, just to have some content being uploaded. After taking a month long break from blogging, it's become clear to me that I wasn't enjoying it. It was as if I had fallen completely out of love with 'Georgia Megan' as a brand.
An Honest Rosegal Review*
Saturday, 21 October 2017
Rosegal is an online clothing company that often works with bloggers. I have worked with them before and have had a positive experience, however, I thought this review would be perfect for those who are sceptical about buying from this website with their own hard earned money. It is no secret that Rosegal's website is nothing like that of Topshop or ASOS and it can come across as a 'scam site'. I can assure you all that Rosegal is definitely not a scam and you will get the clothes/accessories you order, but let me give you a detailed explanation of my experience this time.
5 easy self-care tips for everyday
Saturday, 14 October 2017
When we're constantly rushing around, getting our to-do lists done, running here and there, meeting deadlines, making money, and whatever else we have stressing us out, we forget that we need to take the time to breathe. With uni starting again, working two jobs, running my blog, and keeping a social life I definitely know the feeling of being stressed. I'm sure many of you can relate to this and, as you all know, it isn't nice. It can sometimes feel so intense that you feel like you're drowning in the to-do lists you have stacking up in your head. It feels like there is absolutely no time to have down time, and when you do take time for yourself you can feel guilty or lazy. This post is all about tackling that.
Rosegal Wishlist - The Plaid Coat Trend*
Friday, 8 September 2017
For those of you that keep up to date with my blog you will have seen that I have worked with Rosegal previously. The online retailer providing everything from wall tapestries to retro dresses is a popular company with bloggers all over the world. My last experience with Rosegal was a good one, so when offered to work with them again I jumped at the chance to check out what on trend pieces they have available. What sprang to my mind? A new winter coat.
The Striped Culottes I Can't Stop Wearing
Wednesday, 16 August 2017
Up until last week I was completely adamant that culottes didn't suit me. As a person who's 5"2, I'm sure I can speak for a lot of shorter women out there when I say that new trouser trends make me cower in fear. Tops and dresses I can work with, but if I'm not wearing my black or blue jeans that I've had for 2+ years because they fit me so well, then I'm uncomfortable. Despite this, I thought I would push myself on my latest shopping trip and I'm so glad I did! Myself and my housemates decided to take a trip up to Exeter before separating for the latter part of the summer, and low and behold my favourite shop was there waiting for me. Thank you to Zara for producing these comfy culottes that I now can't seem to be separated from.
5 Things I've Learned in My First Year at Uni
Friday, 4 August 2017
My first year at university has been filled with a million highs and very few lows, but I can without a doubt say that I've learned a lot from the whole experience. If anything, I feel like I've learnt more about myself and who I am as a person (as cringey as it sounds) than anything about my actual degree subject - but that's the whole point of first year, right? So whether you're heading to university this September, planning to sometime in the future, or aren't bothered about going at all - here's a few things my new found independence has taught me over the last year.
London Pride 2017
Thursday, 20 July 2017
For those of you that don't know, Saturday 8th of July was Pride in London. I was planning to write up this post that Monday, but naturally I got busy with work experience, actual work, and all the things that come along with living without parents (household chores, etc). Better late then never though, right?
I went to Pride in London last year and I have to say that this year they really stepped up their game. You can check out my post about last year's pride here! As usual, Trafalgar Square was packed with rainbow flags, multicoloured hair, and colourful makeup. It was a crowd of colour and fun. Everyone had smiles on their faces and, despite the heat, with drinks in our hands we danced for a good 5 hours.
Styling Maison de Choup
Sunday, 2 July 2017
Maison de Choup, a brand you have probably heard of if you keep up with my blog or follow me on Instagram, is an amazing clothing brand. They sell great quality 'minimalist style' clothes (perfect for me!) at fair prices, AND the best part is that on certain designs they donate 25% of the profits to the charity Young Minds. Young Minds is a charity that aims to spread awareness and help young people that suffer from mental illness. This is a topic near and dear to my heart, so how could I turn down the opportunity to offer you all a discount code? By using the discount code 'GEORGIA' you can get 15% Maison de Choup products from their website! To show you guys how much I love the brand and how much I trust them (yes, I bought this red embellished shirt with my own money - not gifted!) I've done a little OOTD to show just one of the ways you can style their clothes.
How to Recover from a Lack of Motivation
Monday, 19 June 2017
Bralet - Boohoo | Shorts - Topshop | Sunglasses - Primark
I struggle massively with a lack of motivation. One day I'll be on a roll, completing my entire to do list and staying on top of absolutely everything, whereas other days it will reach 9pm and I won't have accomplished anything. For me, these are the worst kind of days. A day of nothing is a day wasted (unless I need some major time to relax and recuperate). Today is my first productive day in a while as I've actively taken steps to gain some motivation. I haven't posted on my blog in what feels like forever and I thought that this would be the perfect post to get back into things and hopefully a better blogging routine. So let's avoid the lengthy introduction and begin with some tips on how to recover from a lack of motivation!
Maison De Choup SS17 Launch Party
Friday, 19 May 2017
Last night was the launch party of Maison De Choup's latest collection 'Warrior not Worrier'. George David Hodgson, the brilliant designer of the collection, invited myself and a plus one to the launch event and it was such a great experience. We were able to see the brand new collection first hand while sipping on some beautiful cocktails and networking with other bloggers, designers, and even authors.
Blogging: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Thursday, 4 May 2017
Blogging is amazing. It's something we in the blogosphere love with a passion and enjoy every second of, but that doesn't mean we don't have our ups and downs with it. As bloggers, we deal with a lot of stigma that we can usually ignore. We ignore it because we love what we do, but today I wanted to bring these negatives to light and share the good, the bad, and the ugly side of blogging.
Things I've Learned in April
Sunday, 30 April 2017
April has been a good month. I've been productive in terms of university work, I went home to see my family, I got a new phone that I have been begging for forever, I met my girlfriend's lovely family and the month has even been full of lovely weather (until today of course)! It's been a great April and to celebrate that I thought I would sum up the top 5 things I've learned from it!
