5 easy self-care tips for everyday

When we're constantly rushing around, getting our to-do lists done, running here and there, meeting deadlines, making money, and whatever else we have stressing us out, we forget that we need to take the time to breathe. With uni starting again, working two jobs, running my blog, and keeping a social life I definitely know the feeling of being stressed. I'm sure many of you can relate to this and, as you all know, it isn't nice. It can sometimes feel so intense that you feel like you're drowning in the to-do lists you have stacking up in your head. It feels like there is absolutely no time to have down time, and when you do take time for yourself you can feel guilty or lazy. This post is all about tackling that.

I'm notorious for being too hard on myself. I am forever taking on more projects than I can handle, whether that be at university, with work shifts, or with sponsored blog posts. You feel as though you may be missing out on an opportunity if you don't take it, and all of a sudden you've said yes to everything and you're swamped with work. For those of us that only tend to have 10-15 minutes of down time a day, here's a list of tips and suggestions on how to use that short time wisely!

1. Take care of your skin

You're busy and stressed which will, in turn, take a toll on your skin. Pick out your favourite cleanser, face wash, exfoliator, and face mask and go through an elaborate, yet healthy, skin care routine. Washing off the dirt of the day always feels like it takes some of the stress away with it.

2. Get enough sleep

Whether you have a lot going on or not, you will always feel better for getting a good night's sleep. Having 7-8 hours will allow you to feel refreshed in the morning and won't have you lagging later on in the day. Trust me, your body will thank you.

3. Stretch

Yoga class isn't always an option for everyone, so the next best thing is to take 5 minutes in the morning to stretch. A simple arm exercise and a little leg stretch will help to release any tension you're still holding on to. The exercise of stretching itself is so calming and gives you some time to clear your mind.

4. Drink your favourite tea

I'm a peppermint tea kind of girl myself, but all different teas have different soothing properties. For example, chamomile is great for sleeping while mint teas are good for relieving mild pain like headaches and period cramps. Swap out your coffee and normal tea bags for green tea, it's not only soothing, but great for your health.

5. Get away from your electronics

Before I got to sleep, I try to spend at least 10 minutes off of my phone. I won't lie, it can be difficult, especially when all you can see is your phone lighting up with notifications. Turn your phone over and calm your brain. Take in the fact that it is just you here and the outside world is gone for a moment. Read for 5 or 10 minutes or try out a colour therapy book. Take those few minutes before you sleep to calm your brain and allow the stress of the day to leave.

So those are my five easy self care tips that I try to live by every day. Doing these five things is such an easy way to make sure you are taking care of yourself mentally and physically and not putting your to-do lists first.
