September Goals | University

In less than a week I'm off to university! I've never been more excited and I'm so ready to move and start a brand new chapter of my life. Even though I absolutely love where I live at the minute (I can hop on a bus to Cambridge easily!) I'm excited to move somewhere that has a bit more of a city vibe!

I can't wait to start my Fashion Media & Marketing course either. I want to learn as much as I can about the industry and hopefully build up a pretty great portfolio of work to show future employers. It's all a bit nerve wracking, but at the end of the day I'm more excited than anything!

So, with September being the signifier of a brand new part of my life beginning, I thought I would compile a list of my goals for this month and share them with you. Hopefully I'll be able to stick with them!

1. Get Packing!
I'm awful at fact I'm terrible. I feel the need to take absolutely everything and anything I own everywhere with me. I even struggle to fit things in a weekend bag when I stay somewhere for one night! I honestly have no idea how I'm going to fit everything in the car to take to University!

2. Stay Organised
I'm a master at handing essays, assignments and projects in on time, but my issue is that I never realise when I'm running out of time to complete these things. If a deadline is fast approaching I usually do a bit of work at the beginning of the week, then become distracted for the rest of the week, and when I go back to add "final touches" to my work the day before it's due I realise that I hadn't done as much work as I thought I had done previously! To tackle this I now have both a planner and a calendar. Not only does my phone send me work notifications, but I also have a paper copy as well!

3. Be Social
Now, this shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Over the years I have transformed myself from a shy anxiety ridden introvert, into a friendly and spontaneous extrovert. I know that I definitely want to keep this up and attempt to balance being sociable with university work!

4. Start Saving Money
I'm extremely eager to get my foot in the door in the fashion industry and I'm aware that one of the best ways to do that is through internships. For those of you that don't know, internships are often unpaid and in England they are almost always in London. As I'm sure you can imagine, the travel costs of getting the train to London and back everyday (even with a student railcard) can be extortionate! By getting a part time job and saving while at university this will allow me to have the money to cover my travel for summer internships which I intend to do each year until I finish my masters degree. I know, I'm possibly thinking too much ahead, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to plan!

5. Be the best I can be!
I know it's a bit cringey, but I want to give this university experience my all. I've wanted to be on a course like this since I went to fashion camp when I was 11 (a little embarrassing, I know)! I'm not about to waste nine grand a year just to come out with average grades and an average portfolio - no thank you! I want to throw myself into my work, make great friends, meet amazing people and have good time. I want to be my kindest, hard working and best self!

Those are just a few of my goals for this month. What are your goals? Let me know in the comments!
